The ‘Little Big City’
Zurich city of Switzerland is the largest city in the country. Yet Zurich promotes itself as the ‘Little Big City’. It promotes itself rightly as its historic centre is not very big and wide.
Zurich is situated in the middle of Zurich canton, on the central plains of Switzerland. It has a rising altitude towards the south and the Alps. Being on the northern tip of Lake Zurich, along both shores are present costly houses and lakeside walkway. Across the River Limmat, are situated, Fraumünster and Grossmünster minsters facing each other, which are undoubtedly, the most familiar sites in Zurich. Along this river, is also the old town, with some of the most attractive building and lanes gathered along the banks. The Zurich districts surround the Old Town and are arranged in a clockwise manner, around the city centre, with the numbers matching the last digit in the postal code. During summer the city looks splendid with the reflection of the mountains and clear blue skies on the lake’s sparkling water. Even winters are beautiful with the snowfall.
Zurich evolved to be the financial and commercial centre of Switzerland, by the 19th century. At present it is the city of bankers in the country of banks. You will notice stylish shops and designer boutiques down the street, combined with attractive cafés and trendy bars, through which, you can make out the high standard and fashionable lifestyle of the people. This city demonstrates its strong cultural presence through its museums, art galleries, the opera, orchestras, the Schauspielhaus theatre etc.
